Convenient Location
The town of is conveniently located southwest of Ottawa. You can be in Kanata in only 25 minutes, or downtown Ottawa in less than 40. This makes Carleton Place a great suburb to live in if you are commuting for work into Kanata or Stittsville. Carleton Place comes with all of the great amenities like a variety of grocery stores, a hospital, many restaurants, big box stores, spas, recreation centres and so much more! But, if you need to go into the city for Costco or Ikea, it’s only a short drive away. The town is also conveniently located along Highway 7 which makes travelling a breeze!
Retail
If you are looking for some well-deserved retail therapy, this town will not disappoint! With an assortment of grocery stores including Independent Grocer, FreshCo, M&M Food Market and The Granary. As well as big box stores such as Wal Mart, Home Depot, Rona, Home Hardware, Staples, Dollarama, Canadian Tire and Giant Tiger. On top of these large retail spaces, there are also lots of smaller boutique shops downtown. There are also a few car dealerships including Ford, Kia, GMC and Big Country RV! Schools
If you have children, you will have a choice between 4 different elementary schools along with 2 high schools. The elementary schools include Arklan Community Public School, St. Mary Catholic School, Caldwell Street Elementary School and École élémentaire catholique J.-L.-Couroux. The high schools in Carleton Place are Notre Dame Catholic High School and the aptly named Carleton Place High School. There is also a smaller Catholic school called St. Gregory Catholic School that teaches Junior Kindergarten to grade 3. The town also features a dance school, an adult learning centre, Julia’s School of Music, and a driving centre. Charming Downtown
The charming downtown area features tons of shops, restaurants and bars, cafes, barbershops and hair salons, pet care shops, nail salons, clothing stores and florists. A few notable shops include The Blossom Shop, Carousel, Et Cetera Home, Natural Pet Foods, The Real Wool Shop, Wisteria, The New Oak Tree, Amethyst and many more! On top of the great shopping and eating, you can enjoy a stroll down the sidewalk and check out all of the historic architecture that fills the town. One of our favourite buildings is the Carleton Place Town Hall. This large castle-like building overlooks the Mississippi River and serves as a beautiful landmark for the community.
Close to Cottage Country
The town features the picturesque Mississippi River winding right through the centre of it. The river is actually fed from Mississippi Lake just southwest of the town centre. This large lake stretches over 17kms and features an abundance of cottages along the shoreline. If you live in Carleton Place, you can take a very short drive down the road and be in cottage country within minutes! If you have a boat, you can launch it, go for a tour of the lake, or find a spot to enjoy a swim on a hot day. Living near cottage country has lots of great benefits such as fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, camping, and just enjoying the outdoors in general!
