Affordable Neighbourhoods in the Greater Ottawa Area
We are lucky to live in Canada’s Capital Region for so many reasons. The beautiful landscapes, the Ottawa River and Rideau Canal, tranquil parks, this city is economically stable, and it has a fairly affordable housing market. Especially when you compare the city to the likes of Toronto or Vancouver! Of course, like any major city, Ottawa does have some expensive neighbourhoods that are a little less attainable. But for the most part, there are still lots of affordable neighbourhoods within the Greater Ottawa Area. If you are willing to travel outside of the city, the housing prices are actually quite reasonable. Whether you are a first-time home buyer, relocating to Ottawa, or just looking to downsize, we are here to show you Ottawa’s most affordable neighbourhoods!
Affordable Neighbourhoods Less than 20 Minutes from Downtown Ottawa
For arguments sake, we are going to say that an affordable home within 20 minutes to downtown Ottawa is a home that costs less than $400,000. There really aren’t a lot of detached homes in this price range located close to the city, so we have added condominiums into these neighbourhoods as well.

One thing to be aware of when searching for a home in these neighbourhoods is that with the affordable prices, may come more crime. Due to the cheaper homes in these neighbourhoods, it is more likely to find homes with less curb appeal because they may need lots of updating.

For arguments sake, we are going to say that an affordable home more than 30 minutes from downtown Ottawa is a home that costs less than $300,000. There aren’t lot of condominiums outside of the city, but we have left those in as well.

You should be able to find a fairly nice home in one of these neighbourhoods that may not even need any updating at all! Other homes in these areas may still require lots of updates, but there will be more options for homes in these areas at affordable price ranges.
