Why You Should Move to Richmond
The town of Richmond sits just south of Kanata and west of Barrhaven. You can be downtown Ottawa within 30 minutes, into Kanata in 20 and Barrhaven in 15. The town is only 10 minutes off of Highway 416, making commuting and travelling a breeze! With an assortment of everyday needs such as groceries, restaurants, schools, parks, hair salons, shops, pharmacies, and a medical clinic. If you need a large box store, you are only a short car ride away from one. With a population of approximately 5000, Richmond is filled with friendly people, giving it that small-town feeling while only being 30 minutes away from downtown Ottawa.

As mentioned above, Richmond is in a very convenient location! Only 30 minutes from downtown Ottawa, 20 minutes south of Kanata and 15 minutes west of Barrhaven! Including 3 banks, 2 butcher shops, a community centre, 2 dentists, a medical complex, hardware store, optometrist, 2 veterinarian offices, a tattoo shop, 6 churches and so much more! A few notable businesses include Spotlight Hair & Spa, Great Canadian Fireplace Co., Richmond Nursery Garden Centre & Farm, Ottawa Valley Kitchens, Premier Massage Therapy and Richmond Motorsports. There is also an LCBO, Tim Hortons, Canada Post, public library and 2 gas stations. If that isn’t enough, you can be in Kanata or Barrhaven in under 20 minutes to find everything you need and more!
The Richmond Fair
The Fair has been an exciting part of the town since 1844. It is the largest spectator event held every year within the surrounding communities. The fair is meant to help promote agricultural awareness. You can expect rides, games, rock climbing, a demolition derby, live entertainment, agricultural shows, as well as an assortment of crafts, art, livestock, produce and so much more! The fair has been a staple in the community for over 175 years. Sadly, due to COVID-19, the fair was cancelled in 2020 and will not be held until it is safe to gather. In 2020, they did however put on a great “drive-in” show with awesome live entertainment, so stay tuned for 2021!
Greenspace & Parks
There is also lots of beautiful green space to enjoy in the form of parks, forests, fairgrounds and golf courses. Some notable areas to enjoy include the Richmond Conservation Area along the Jock River, Chanonhouse Park, Martin Street Park, Richmond Memorial Park and Cenotaph, Richmond Lions Community Park, Kings Grant Park, Arbuclle Park, Bob Slack Park and the Richmond Centennial Golf Course. There is also the Riverbend Golf & Country Club and Conley Road Golf Driving Range in the area!
Schools
Richmond has 3 schools including 2 elementary schools and 1 high school. St. Philip Catholic Elementary School, Richmond Public School and South Carleton High School. South Carleton is actually rated at 7.8 on the Fraser Institute website, making it one of the Ottawa area’s top high schools. The three schools are centrally located, which means students who live in the town of Richmond, can actually walk to school if they wish! If you are looking for a small town with great schools, look no further than this beautiful community!
Restaurants
Whether you are looking for fast food, upscale dining, or a quick bite to eat at a pub, this small town has it all! A few notable restaurants Richmond offers are Subway, Tim Hortons, Milano Pizzeria, Danbys Roadhouse, Marlborough Pub & Eatery, Richmond Gourmet Restaurant and Royals Restaurant Dining Lounge.
