The Fair has been an exciting part of the town since 1844. It is the largest spectator event held every year within the surrounding communities. The fair is meant to help promote agricultural awareness. You can expect rides, games, rock climbing, a demolition derby, live entertainment, agricultural shows, as well as an assortment of crafts, art, livestock, produce and so much more! The fair has been a staple in the community for over 175 years. Sadly, due to COVID-19, the fair was cancelled in 2020 and will not be held until it is safe to gather. In 2020, they did however put on a great “drive-in” show with awesome live entertainment, so stay tuned for 2021!
There is also lots of beautiful green space to enjoy in the form of parks, forests, fairgrounds and golf courses. Some notable areas to enjoy include the Richmond Conservation Area along the Jock River, Chanonhouse Park, Martin Street Park, Richmond Memorial Park and Cenotaph, Richmond Lions Community Park, Kings Grant Park, Arbuclle Park, Bob Slack Park and the Richmond Centennial Golf Course. There is also the Riverbend Golf & Country Club and Conley Road Golf Driving Range in the area!
Richmond has 3 schools including 2 elementary schools and 1 high school. St. Philip Catholic Elementary School, Richmond Public School and South Carleton High School. South Carleton is actually rated at 7.8 on the Fraser Institute website, making it one of the Ottawa area’s top high schools. The three schools are centrally located, which means students who live in the town of Richmond, can actually walk to school if they wish!
